THE BRUCE EXPERIENCE
Nowhere along the 800 km. length of
the famous Bruce Trail is the scenery more beautiful than from the
clifftops of the Bruce Peninsula. We travel by van from Toronto to
Tobermory, a picturesque village at the tip of the peninsula. The
Harbourside Inn overlooking Little Tub Harbour will be our headquarters
for most of the tour. From there we値l explore areas like Singing Sands,
where we will search for and identify the wild
orchids and many varieties of ferns which are unique to the area. We値l
hike some of the Cyprus Lake trails as well as Halfway Log Dump Trail and
Little Cove.
An overnight excursion to Manitoulin Island, the world痴 largest fresh
water island, is included. The trip there on the ferry, the Chi Cheemaun
(Big Canoe) is an adventure in itself. While there, we値l hike a number of
local trails, culminating in the spectacular Cup & Saucer Trail, and
explore some parts of the First Nations culture.
A day will be spent cruising Fathom Five National Marine Park with a
drop-off at Flowerpot Island to allow us to explore that unique geological
feature.
Throughout our stay, we値l enjoy a variety of local cuisine (Whitefish is
the featured item everywhere.) for our dinners. Lunches are either picnics
at convenient sites or packed lunches that we値l eat on the trails.
We値l return to Toronto via Beaver Valley where we値l enjoy our last hike
together.
